Open Budget, Green Future: Towards Open, Participatory and Accountable Ecological Funding
In the face of the climate crisis and increasingly complex environmental challenges, ecological financing is a crucial instrument for ensuring sustainable development. However, the effectiveness of environmental funding is determined not only by the size of the budget allocation, but also by the degree to which the planning process is open, participatory, and accountable. Public budget information disclosure, civil society involvement, and strong accountability mechanisms form essential foundations to ensure that public funds genuinely have a significant impact on environmental sustainability.
The Open Government Partnership (OGP) promotes the principles of transparency, participation, and accountability in governance, including the management of public finances. In this context, innovations such as Ecological Fiscal Transfer (EFT), Gender and Ecological Finance, and Village Budget Transparency for Ecological Financing, as well as environmental performance-based funding schemes, are examples of new approaches that require inclusivity and openness governance.
This webinar was held as part of the OGP Week 2025 series to strengthen cross-stakeholder discussions on how the practice of budget openness can support green development and increase public confidence in the management of environmental funds.
