The Department of the Interior and Local Government National Capital Region will participate in Open Gov Week 2026 through the conduct of “Mainstreaming Open Governance: Advancing People-Centered Public Service” on May 21, 2026 at the DILG NCR Regional Office. The activity aims to strengthen transparency, accountability, citizen participation, and innovation by integrating Open Government Partnership (OGP) principles into the daily operations and programs of the Regional Office. Around 150 regional and field personnel are expected to participate in plenary discussions, workshops, and policy presentations highlighting OGP localization initiatives, resilience governance, and collaborative public service delivery across Metro Manila local government units.

15 Years of the Open Government Partnership

Fifteen years ago, OGP launched with a simple but radical premise: that government should serve the people, not the other way around. Over fifteen years, OGP has become the foremost global forum for advancing transparency, accountability, and public participation in government.

In an era of democratic regression and geopolitical fragmentation, platforms that sustain targeted collaborations among likeminded states and between governments and civil society are strategically vital. OGP is one of the few to endure.

The next phase requires action across the partnership: Governments forming cross-border coalitions to address common priorities; political leaders integrating openness into core national agendas; donors and funders sustaining investment and enabling scale; civil society continuing to propose, push, monitor, and demand.

The question ahead is scale and commitment.
