This one-day capacity-building workshop brings together civil society organizations, state, and local government officials in Nasarawa State to advance effective governance. The focus is on operationalizing local government autonomy and institutionalizing the Open Government Partnership (OGP) principles of transparency, accountability, and citizen participation. Participants will gain practical knowledge on policy frameworks, implementation strategies, and collaborative approaches to strengthen local governance. Through expert-led sessions and interactive discussions, the workshop aims to build institutional capacity, foster multi-stakeholder partnerships, and create actionable plans for embedding open government practices. The goal is to enhance service delivery, improve public trust, and ensure sustainable, citizen-centered development at the grassroots level in Nasarawa State.

15 Years of the Open Government Partnership

Fifteen years ago, OGP launched with a simple but radical premise: that government should serve the people, not the other way around. Over fifteen years, OGP has become the foremost global forum for advancing transparency, accountability, and public participation in government.

In an era of democratic regression and geopolitical fragmentation, platforms that sustain targeted collaborations among likeminded states and between governments and civil society are strategically vital. OGP is one of the few to endure.

The next phase requires action across the partnership: Governments forming cross-border coalitions to address common priorities; political leaders integrating openness into core national agendas; donors and funders sustaining investment and enabling scale; civil society continuing to propose, push, monitor, and demand.

The question ahead is scale and commitment.
