As part of the IPI Symposium on Media Freedom and Freedom of Information in Turkey, the first day of the event will focus entirely on Freedom of Information (FoI) and access to public data. Bringing together journalists, researchers and FoI experts from across Europe, the panel “What can international FoI experience offer us?” will explore how access-to-information mechanisms are used in different countries to strengthen investigative journalism, transparency and public accountability.

The session will highlight practical experiences, legal frameworks and advocacy strategies from Germany, Italy and Spain, while also reflecting on the challenges facing FoI practices in Turkey. Through comparative perspectives and cross-border dialogue, the panel aims to discuss how international experiences can contribute to improving transparency culture, access to information and data-driven journalism in Turkey.
